PeakPro — Privacy Policy

Summary

PeakPro is designed to work without knowing who you are. There is no account, no sign-in, no advertising, and no tracking across apps. Your location, camera view, and photos are processed on your device only and are never uploaded to us. The only data that leaves your device is anonymous usage statistics and crash reports (Google Firebase), payment processing handled entirely by Apple or Google, and an anonymous download of public satellite orbit data.

We are the controller for the data processing described in this policy.

2. Data processed only on your device

The following data is used by PeakPro to provide its features, is processed exclusively on your device, and is never transmitted to us or anyone else:

• Precise location (GPS). Used to compute which peaks are visible from where you stand. Requested only while the app is open ("While Using the App"); PeakPro never requests background location. Your position is held in memory and is not stored, except for viewpoints you explicitly save as bookmarks (stored locally on your device).
• Compass and motion sensors. Used to orient the panorama and AR view.
• Camera. Used live for AR mode to overlay peak names on the mountain view. The camera feed is not recorded or transmitted.
• AR photos. Photos you capture are saved to your device's photo library only when you tap save, and shared only when you use the system share sheet.
• Imported photos. If you import a photo to identify peaks in it, PeakPro reads its GPS metadata (EXIF) on-device to place the scene. The photo and its metadata stay on your device.
• Preferences, saved viewpoints, and favorite peaks. Stored locally on your device. Deleted when you delete them in the app or uninstall the app.

Because this data never reaches us, we cannot access, disclose, or delete it — it is under your control on your device.

3. Data that leaves your device

3.1 Usage statistics (Google Analytics for Firebase)

We use Google Analytics for Firebase, a service of Google LLC (1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA; in the EEA/Switzerland: Google Ireland Ltd.), to understand which features are used so we can improve the app. Events are limited to feature usage (for example: AR mode opened, a peak's details viewed, a map layer toggled, the paywall shown). No coordinates, no free-text input, and no photos are ever included in analytics events.

The Firebase SDK additionally collects standard technical data: an app-instance identifier (a random ID specific to this app installation, not tied to your identity), device model, operating system version, app version, coarse (city-level) geography derived from your IP address, and — on Android — the resettable advertising ID. We do not use any of this for advertising.

• Legal basis: legitimate interest in improving and maintaining the app (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR; Art. 31(1) nDSG).
• Retention: user-level analytics data up to 14 months, then deleted or aggregated.
• Reset/opt-out: on Android you can reset or delete the advertising ID in system settings (Settings → Google → Ads). You may also object to this processing at any time by contacting us (Section 7).

3.2 Crash reports (Firebase Crashlytics)

If the app crashes, a crash report is sent to Firebase Crashlytics (Google, addresses as above) containing the technical crash trace, device model, OS version, app version, and device state at the time of the crash (e.g. free memory). Crash reports contain no location, photos, or user content.

• Legal basis: legitimate interest in providing a stable app (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR; Art. 31(1) nDSG).
• Retention: 90 days.

3.3 In-app purchase (PeakPro Ultra)

The one-time Ultra unlock is sold and processed entirely by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We never receive your name, payment details, or billing address — only an anonymous confirmation that the purchase is valid, which is stored on your device. • Legal basis: performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).

3.4 Satellite orbit data (Celestrak)

To show satellite passes (ISS, Tiangong, Hubble, Starlink), the app periodically downloads public orbit data from celestrak.org. This is a plain download that carries no personal data or identifiers; like any internet request, Celestrak's servers see your IP address for the duration of the request.

• Legal basis: legitimate interest in providing the satellite feature (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

3.5 Links to external services

Peak detail pages contain optional links that open outside the app in your browser or maps app — for example Wikipedia articles or Google Maps directions to a peak. Directions links contain only the peak's coordinates, not your position. Once you leave PeakPro, the privacy policy of the respective service applies.

4. Recipients and international transfers

We operate no servers of our own. The only recipient of data from the app is Google (Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics), acting as our processor, and Apple/Google as independent controllers for purchases. Firebase data may be processed on Google servers in the USA. Transfers are safeguarded by Google's certification under the EU–U.S. and Swiss–U.S. Data Privacy Frameworks and, where applicable, EU Standard Contractual Clauses.

We never sell personal data and never share it for advertising.

5. Data retention

We keep no data ourselves. Analytics data is retained by Firebase for up to 14 months, crash reports for 90 days. Data stored on your device (saved viewpoints, favorites, preferences, the Ultra unlock flag, cached satellite data) remains until you delete it or uninstall the app.

6. Your rights

Under the GDPR and the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (nDSG) you have the right to access, rectify, and erase your personal data, to restrict or object to its processing, to data portability, and to withdraw any consent at any time. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority — in Switzerland the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC, Feldeggweg 1, CH-3003 Bern, www.edoeb.admin.ch), or your local EU data protection authority.

Please note: because PeakPro has no accounts, we generally hold no data that identifies you. Analytics data is keyed to a random app-instance ID, and we usually cannot link it to a specific person (Art. 11 GDPR). 8. Children

PeakPro is suitable for all ages, has no accounts, no ads, no social features, and collects no data that identifies a person. It is not directed specifically at children.

9. Security

All network connections use encrypted transport (HTTPS/TLS). Since your location, photos, and camera data never leave your device, they are protected by your device's own security (passcode, encryption).

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the app's features or legal requirements change. The current version is always available at https://www.data-works.ch/apps/peakpro/privacy and the "Last updated" date above will change. Material changes will be highlighted in the app's release notes.
